Hello my name is Elizabeth Baxter

I have worked as a Counsellor since 1995 and as a School Counsellor since 1996. I trained initially as a Humanistic Counsellor and then as a Creative Arts Therapist and Play Therapist to increase my skills when working with children.

I have worked in a number of Primary and Secondary schools and also at a Pupil Referral Unit for excluded primary school children with complex needs including ADHD, Attachment Disorders and Asperger's Syndrome.

I have worked for a local charity called The Valley Trust since 1999. The charity was originally set up to provide counselling support for children suffering as a result of their parents separating or divorcing.

Over the years I have worked with many children experiencing their parent's separation and they have really appreciated the opportunity to express themselves in a variety of ways, without worrying about upsetting either of their parents.

I also have a private practice in West Horsley where I see adults, teenagers and children. In 2003 I installed a purpose built log cabin with a fully equipped playroom and counselling room. The playroom is particularly inviting to children and this makes their first session so much easier, they visibly relax when they see the inside of the log cabin and are then happy to be parted from the parent who has brought them.

I believe that we all have a directional tendency towards wholeness and an innate desire to reach our full potential. However, sometimes experiences in life get in the way and prevent us from reaching our true potential.

My aim as a therapist is to provide the conditions that enable growth to occur, so that this positive directional tendency can be reactivated with constructive results.
